How To Clean A Canvas Tent
Mar 03, 22
Tents come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but regardless of the size a tent may be, it is important to clean canvas tents periodically. Some people even choose to wash their canvas tent 1-2 times a year! The process of cleaning a canvas tent can be inexpensive, but definitely a little time consuming if the appearance of your tent is something you take pride in. If you follow these tips below, you'll be able to get your tent looking as good as new!
1) Hose down the tent
The best way to clean your canvas tent is simply by starting with hosing it down. Canvas fabric is easy to deal with in the sense that it doesn't retain stains
2) Remove dirt with a sponge
Remove any dirt or dust that may have built up on the surface of the tent. A simple sponge can do the trick. Just wet the sponge and rub it over the surface of the tent until the dirt comes off.
*For heavy stain spots, bathe with a mildsoap*
3) Rinse with lots of water
Rinsing with water helps remove small debris, dirt, and residue from your canvas tent. Rinsing with an ample amount of water is necessary especially if you use soap to clean any spots on your tent, you will want to wash the soap off as soon as possible and make sure there is no soapy residue left on the canvas fabric.
4) Hang to air-dry
You might be wondering, "why not just dry off the outside of the tent?" Simple. If you do not hang-dry both sides of your tent, allowing for airflow to the inside and outside, you are potentially setting yourself up for mold issues later on after you pack it up.
In sum, cleaning a canvas tent is easy. Simply sponge it down with a mixture of soap and water, and then rinse it off. Be sure to dry the tent completely before storing it.
Happy camping :)
